WHAT WE TREAT

EDUCATION IS PARAMOUNT

How does the body MOVE?

Human movement is a complex and highly coordinated symphony of muscle contractions, all controlled by the central nervous system to create joint actions for specific tasks—whether that’s something simple like picking up a pencil or as dynamic as skiing the moguls.

The human body is designed for efficiency, with each joint forming the foundation of movement. Each of these joints plays a primary role in movement, categorized as either stability- or mobility-based:

  • Mobility joints (ankle, hip, thoracic spine, shoulder, wrist) are designed to move freely in multiple directions.
  • Stability joints (foot, knee, lumbar spine, cervical spine, scapula, elbow) provide structural support and control.

Ideally, these joints function in an alternating pattern of stability and mobility, creating a strong yet fluid kinetic chain for movement. However, life happens—injuries, repetitive strain, muscle imbalances, and postural habits can disrupt this natural sequence. When that happens, stability joints may become overly mobile, while mobility joints can stiffen and lose their range of motion. This imbalance leads to compensations, inefficiency, and a higher risk of pain and injury.

What is FUNCTIONAL CHIROPRACTIC?

Functional chiropractic is about restoring that balance. Diagnostically, we assess movement, identify dysfunctions, and apply evidence-based treatments to correct these imbalances—helping you move better, feel stronger, and reduce the risk of injury. Instead of just chasing pain, we focus on the root cause of dysfunction, using a combination of hands-on techniques, functional rehab, and movement retraining to get you back to doing what you love.

At Ascent Health & Performance, we go beyond spinal care to address a wide range of conditions affecting the entire body. From head to toe, our evidence-based approach targets the root cause of your pain or dysfunction, providing tailored treatments to restore movement and optimize performance. Whether it’s chronic headaches, vertigo, shoulder impingement, or ankle instability, our goal is to help you move better and feel stronger.

Explore the info below to learn more about the common conditions we treat, including feet, knees, hips, wrists, and more. Each provides insights into causes, symptoms, and effective treatment strategies, empowering you to make informed decisions about your care. No matter where you’re experiencing discomfort, Backcountry Health is here to help you achieve lasting relief and improved functionality.

Back Pain Sufferers

Are you struggling with chronic back pain, or have you recently been injured & can't perform the activities you're passionate about?

Your back provides mobility for everyday activities, such as twisting, bending, and supports the pelvis and hips during movements like walking.

Our Approach to Back Pain Relief

Adjusting the low back and pelvis can help greatly with the nerve root impingement that causes sciatica. Addressing the muscles and fascia using Active Release Techniques and other muscle work can free up the sciatic nerve as it travels down the leg. As sports chiropractors, we also look at your posture and movement patterns to find out what caused the irritation and give you exercises and stretches so you can avoid having it occur again.

Neck Pain, Injuries & Discomfort

Around 80% of adults experience neck pain, and half of these individuals experience chronic neck pain.

Are you experiencing painful & uncomfortable symptoms such as:

  • Aching in the neck and upper back
  • Pain or numbness in the upper back or arms
  • Tightness at the base of the skull
  • Sharp, electric-like sensations down the arm
  • Tightness in the sides of the neck into the shoulder
  • Headaches

Our Approach to Neck Pain

If neck pain interferes with your ability to hit the trails, slopes, and roads or simply work and engage in your usual routines and leisure activities, we strongly recommend scheduling an appointment. During your visit, we diagnose and treat your pain so you can get back to your daily routine. Whether it’s sharp or dull, aching, severe, or just annoying, put an end to the discomfort today!

Headaches

Headaches can be debilitating and prevent you from performing at your best. Understand the cause of your migraines or headaches and steer clear of them. We diagnose the triggers and set a consistent routine of treatment so you can check that painful feel off your list. Our chiropractors have the tools and tests available to diagnose and treat the root cause of your pain.

Different Types of Headaches

  • Joints of the cervical (neck) spine
  • Jaw/TMJ related headaches
  • Sinus related headaches
  • Nerves of the head and neck
  • Neck and head muscles
  • Areas of the brain
  • Migraine
  • Tension-Type Headaches

Chiropractic Care vs. NSAIDS for Headaches

NSAIDS sometimes do the trick for reducing pain quickly, however they do little to address the cause of the headache. If you get headaches once in a blue moon, you are less likely to see a chiropractor for a headache. If you are getting headaches daily or several days a week, it is time to see a chiropractor who can help you figure out why you have repeated headaches, work to alleviate them, and can help you learn what to do so the headaches do not return as often.
